University buildings in Russia may contain one or more departments. Campus buildings may not have any large plot of land containing dorms and academic buildings in an enclosed space – unlike a U.S. «campus». Dorms and university buildings may be located at some distance from one another. Departments often have their own library, which will usually not have open stacks.

Two of our new expressions have different forms for gender and number: рад has the feminine form ра́да and the plural ра́ды, and the phrase “I didn’t catch that” has the masculine form по́нял, the feminine form поняла́, and the plural form по́няли. You will learn the grammar connected with these forms later; for now learn the forms as new words.
