Goals for Уро́к 7
By the end of this unit you will be able to:
- show you know traditions connected with Russian New Years celebrations and know of a few other holidays in the Russian calendar
- understand names of typical dishes served in Russia, talk about whether you would like to eat them, and know what they are made of
- talk about what you eat and drink with (or without) what (coffee without sugar, tea with lemon, pizza with sausage)
- use Russian to be a polite guest, a gracious host, offer toasts, etc.
- talk about how you spend free time, what sports and other activities you are into, what you want to become after college
- order a meal in a restaurant
- understand and talk more about biography: jobs and education
- understand and report on weather
- understand and talk about regional climates
- understand an account of a journey or trip, including leaving and arriving
To achieve these outcomes, you will learn this information about the language:
- the names of Russian dishes, ingredients, place settings
- the conjugation of the verbs есть (to eat) and пить (drink) in their imperfective and perfective forms
- commands and other phrases for extending invitations to go somewhere, making compliments, offering toasts
- instrumental case forms of nouns, adjectives and pronouns to express these ideas:
- accompaniment (с чем with what / с кем with whom)
- "instrument" – what you use to do something (eating with a fork)
- what you are occupied by or "into" (заниматься and увлекаться)
- compound subjects (Robert and I = we with Robert)
- impersonal constructions for talking about weather (здесь жа́рко)
- impersonal constructions with dative to talk about feelings (мне хо́лодно)
- using идти to talk about precipitation (идёт дождь / идёт снег)
- directional prefixes при- / у- with verbs of motion to describe parts of a journey
- the verb "fly"
