By the end of this unit you will be able to:
- read and understand stories about events in the past
- compare what you used to do with what you do now
- talk about people and objects that you like or dislike
- talk about presents you buy for or give to others for holidays and birthdays
- ask and answer questions about people's age
- understand and give calendar dates
- recognize features of New Year's celebrations: ёлка, Дед Мороз, Снегурочка
- discuss plans for celebrating a holiday or say what you will be doing
- name basic foodstuffs in Russian
- talk about activities that you and others need to / have to do
To achieve these outcomes, you will learn this information about the language:
- verbal aspect in Russian (imperfective and perfective verbs)
- using imperfective (НСВ) verbs in past, present and future for:
- repeated or regular actions
- simultaneous actions
- actions with time of duration
- using perfective (СВ) verbs in past or future for:
- one-time actions emphasizing completion
- expected result actions
- sequential actions
- conjugated forms of imperfective verbs (present tense) vs perfective verbs (future tense)
- the dative case of nouns, pronouns and adjectives
- date-month expressions (како́е число́ and како́го числа́)
- using dative for giving age (ско́лько лет?), liking (нра́виться) and need (на́до)
- using dative with indirect objects
